A Good Mortgage Calculator
A couple of folks have asked me the best way to calculate how different extra payments might affect their mortgage. I’ve got some schedules set up in excel that I use and save for future reference. If you aren’t that heavy into number crunching, bankrate.com has a useful tool to do this.
Selections from Democracy in America – Book 1
I am working through Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America. As a twenty-five year old French aristocrat, Tocqueville came to the US in 1831 obstensibly to write about American’s penal system. He did indeed publish a book on this subject, but his two volume set on the politics, religion, press and class structure he found here is still seen today as one of the most insightful books written on the US.

For Unto Us a Child is Born!
Isaiah 9:6-7 (ESV)
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
